Man washing socks in sink

                                                                                For Margaret Atwood

I am here
Where my hands are.

I have unpacked the bags
Hidden in my body.

I will wash everything.

I am getting ready to sing.

I am washing my socks
In the sink.

Dark, wet, musty things
-- I will set them out on the windowsill to dry
In the sweet sunlight.
